Or to clean their wax-filled ears!!! I've noticed over the years that quite afew Greek men in Australia (including friends etc in my family) have this long fingernail on their pinky finger. I think it looks awful!!! But as someone has already said it could be a status symbol -one who has a long fingernail does not use his hands for hard toiling work and so may show that he is wealthy and does not need to work hard. Although it's mostly only for appearance's sake as most of these male relatives of mine do toil with their hands. And I just wonder sometimes how they manage not to break it. I wish they would...
