Admittedly my last post was extreme. I think I over generalized by drawing such drastic parallells. I am not angry (anymore), and I know it is not fair to over generalize. What I dealt with was parents who disapproved before ever meeting me, before ever talking to me, etc. The reasoning I got (both from my girlfriend and objective sources) was that this was a "cultural thing" and that I couldn't possibly understand it. Well I did win the parents over, alond with all the relatives who would not speak to me for the first 18 months of my relationship with my girlfriend.

Anyway, I think the opressive government parallell is very on point with the family structure I ran into as well as the general structure that exists within the culture (or so my research has indicated). Anyway, Thanks for hanging in there with me, and for seeing past my rather hot retorts.

: Try to relax and stop being so angry. Again you are comparing apples and potatoes. We are discussing families not oppressive governments.I, unlike you, celebrate many, many things in the Greek culture and prefer to dwell on the good not what I perceive as unacceptable for me. You are trying to be academic and literate but come accross as being narrow and unyielding. No one mentioned disapproval of mates. If that is what happened to you, maybe it had more to do with your personality and not your ethnicity.
