These are beautiful songs that have moved generations.
Unfortunately some Greek words contain more meaning
and make emotional allusions that do not translate
well into English (a dry and pedestrian language in
my opinion). I hope these translations hint and the
deep meaning of the original Greek. I had dinner
with Theothorakis once and cherished the opportunity
to meet him in person.

Ena to xelidoni

One lonely swallow and precious the spring
For the sun to return it will take many working.
It will take thousands to die on the wheel,
Even the living, their blood must spill.

My God, Master Artisan, you have built me in the mountains
My God, Master Artisan you have locked me in the seas.

The magi have stolen the body of May,
They've buried him in sepulcher in the distant sea.
In a deep well he is was sealed and affixed,
He gave odor to the dark and filled the abyss.

My God, Master Artisan, in the lavender as well
My God, Master Artisan, you too Resurrection smell.

Kaimos:

The beach goes on
The wave is long
How great the pain (longing)
How bitter the shame (lost chance)

Like a bitter river inside me,
The blood of your wound.
But more bitter than blood,
Your kiss on my lips.

You don't know the frigid cold,
Long nights with out a moon.
To not know what moment
The pain will take you.

Like a bitter river inside me,
The blood of your wound,
But more bitter than blood,
Your kiss on my lips.
