As you may already be aware the words are probably ancient greek. Ancient greek words often did end in consonants. The only "word" I could make out was on the 2nd ship. The last 3 letters of "alt" (áëô). I found that the ancient greek word for 'sea' is "als" (áëò or rather áëc). I would also say that the words or letters are abbreviations of the full words making the statements on the ships' side.

I may be able to help you more if you could tell me in what context you found these ships? That is, are they to do with Homer perhaps -one of his epics, or any other ancient greek stories?
