Come on Debbie... How can you not like Stelios?
Stelios is short for Stylianos, the patron saint
of children. In his icons, he is depicted with
a baby in his arms. When we moved to Canada in
1966 my Anglo grade 5 teacher couldn't pronounce
my name and informally started calling me Steve.
This name stuck with me for a long time. Finally
after many years I decided it was time to revert
to my real name. I retrained all my friends and
colleagues and credit card companies to call me
Stelios, which gives me satisfaction to hear it!
Why would you want to shorten or bastardize your
child's name? If you name him Stelios, then call
him Stelios. What's this Stel & Steve crap? If
you want to marry a Greek man you have to play by
the rules...
