: Hello,

: I just got engaged to my non-Greek Orthodox girlfriend. She is planning to convert from Catholocism...

: Question on the bridal party. Can We have a Koumbaros & Koumbara while at the same time still have a best man & maid of honor?

: The Koumbarie will be my Godparents who will be flying in from Greece. But she wants to include an old childhood friend as the maid of honor. My brother can be the best man as a ceremonial match to the maid of honor. I wouldnt expect my brother to have any real responsibilities.

: How do we divie up the responsibilities? Since I have a Koumbaro what does the Koumbara do and how will that affect the Maid of Honor? It is important to her that the maid of honor is still involved.

: thanks

Sounds to me like a very fun time. Congratulations!!! No one can really tell you what to do though. I guess it is up to you and your fiance foremost to sit and talk about who does what and who stands where and who sits where and then discuss this with your koumbarie and maid of honor.

As for the greek church though, I think (but not sure) that the koumbaro or koumbara is required to do the rings and the stephana and walk around the table with you. My girfriend got her koumbaro to tdo one and her koumbara to do the other. Maybe you can talk to your priest about something like this to.

Also koumbaro and koumbara can also be regarde as synonymous with best man and maid of honour so in the end it is really up to you guys.

Have fun and enjoy your wonderful day and life together!!!
