unfortunately in the bigger picture the issue with the occupation of cyprus is a dead issue. global politics of the current era will dictate for the cypriots the status of their land. the invasion was handed over to the western powers and given to turkey on an open basis. due to its geographical location and its strategic military capapbilities, in an event of a war in the palestinian and isreali region, the launch capabilities for the US military would be alot easier. there are many orgaizations that encourage support and financial contributions. while these people mean well, their efforts are misleading and their time is not spent solving problems just collecting alot of money. and politically havent done anything in 25+ years to make a difference.
there is no ethnic or religious ordeal that is any more than of an issue than that of a catholic and a protistan. the issues of the constantinople area and other areas in the wester region of turkey are 1000x more serious but are ignored and will be ignored for now.
my travels and research has shown me the "right of passage" of the turkish special forces soldiers that behead kurds in their first year to prove their worthyness in the units they are in. the greeks in Constantinople that have been raped and beat if they try to do anything that we in america and even in greece would consider normal. crossing the wrong street or eating out past a certain time. these are the problems we need to identify.
