I think the only solution is to have a second marriage service on the same day in an Orthodox church (I have friends who did this). That way, both of you are pleased and the marriage is sanctified in a way that satisfies you and your families.
The extra expense will be minimal, and at least that way your heritage will be acknowledged too.
