Your friend was very fortunate to have a husband who put his primary family (his wife and children) before his extended family. However, I don't think you should feel that your husband didn't love you as much as he did his extended family, maybe he just didn't know how to negotiate asserting his choice in you and retaining good family relations with his extended family. That surely must be extremely difficult for anyone, but maybe he too feels his inability to breach the gap between his desire and the reality of his extended family with much regret. I don't know, but don't be so hard on yourself, some things in human relations are impossible hurdles.
