Thank you all for your response. I did talk with my priest about this. He said that he is willing to overlook a non-Greek non-Orthodox godparent if he or she is married to one who is. The couple that I had in mind are both non-Greek and non-Orthodox. He said that is unacceptable. He also disagreed with what Jack said about the sex of the godparent, etc. Although he did point out that that is acceptable in some churches. He did suggest a young couple in our church he thought would be perfect (especially since the wife is Filipina like me, and the husband is Greek Orthodox, just like me and my husband, and they're our age). While we are friendly with them, we are not that close. I really would prefer people we are close to, but unless we christen our child somewhere else, I would have to follow the rules. OK, enough whining from me. Thanks again for all your advice.
