27 YEARS OF TURKISH OCCUPATION OF CYPRUS IS 27 YEARS TOO LONG

***************************************************
The Honorable George W. Bush
President of the United States of America
The White House
Washington DC 20050

Dear Mr. President:

As an American citizen I would like to express my great concern with
the continued occupation of a large part of the territory of Cyprus. On
July 20, 1974, Cyprus was brutally invaded and occupied by Turkish armed
forces with American supplied weapons. Turkey, a NATO ally, continues to
occupy Cyprus for twenty-seven years maintaining a large number of armed
forces on the island, and demonstrating utter disrespect for the human
rights of the people of Cyprus.

Mr. President, I ask that you will keep the Cyprus issue a priority in
your administration and exert your influence and press for:

(a) Withdrawal of the Turkish armed forces from the territory of Cyprus;
(b) Return of the refugees to their homes;
(c) Respect for human rights of the Cypriot people;
(d) Accession of Cyprus to the European Union.

I trust, Mr. President, that you will continue your consistent efforts
towards a just and viable solution to the Cyprus tragedy.
