Oh Panos, you will find enlightened and ignorant people amongst Orthodox christians as you would amongst your (no longer living) pagans. You don't have to like the Orthodox church, but it WAS the Orthodox church that was the foundation stone of western European Christianity, that in turn provided the environment for the Renaissance and consequent 'Enlightenment' period in Western Europe, hence the classics were re-taught. So you were educated in Germany, well Germany's tradition of teaching the classics can be directly attributed to the Orthodox Church - so please don't bite the hand that 'fed' you. Whether you like it or not, and you may as well like it because there's nothing you can do about it, you are a product of the Orthodox church, just as much as you are a product of Rome or Western Europe. Take pride in your heritage - ALL of it.
